The Featherlite Corporation began as a Texas-based, privately held company
in 1949. Originally, Featherlite operated lightweight expanded shale aggregate
facilities; thus the name "Featherlite."
At the time, the main consumers of lightweight aggregate were concrete block
companies, so in 1953, Featherlite began acquiring block companies and
has continued to expand over the years. Featherlite now operates 7
block producing and 2 cement bagging facilities in Texas and 3 other
locations, which maintain inventory and sales offices.
We are continually upgrading and
expanding our equipment to accommodate demand, enhance product lines and improve quality.
Since 1995, Featherlite has expanded or renovated its Round Rock, Dallas, Lubbock,
Abilene and El Paso plants. Featherlite began producing pavers at its El Paso, Texas,
facility in 1995, and is now producing pavers (including
Arrowhead pavers) at its Dallas, Texas, facility. In keeping with this strategy for growth
and expansion, Featherlite upgraded its San Antonio, Texas, facility in 1999,
once again capitalizing on the ever-expanding landscape and garden products market.
Featherlite is the largest block producer in the Southwest.
In 1976, Featherlite was purchased by Justin Industries and is today
a member of the Acme Brick family of companies.
